Using Switch Control to take photos and videos
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerSwitch Control (Settings › Accessibility › Switch Control) lets you use an adaptive switch, the screen, or head movements to select items. You can set it up to reach the Camera app’s shutter and record buttons.
What it is
Switch Control highlights items on screen in turn; you activate a switch to choose one. Switches can be external devices, the screen, or head movements detected by the front camera.
For filming
- Use a stand so the phone is fixed.
- Set up a recipe or a quick path to the shutter.
- Use the timer so you have time to settle after pressing.

Apple’s Accessibility support and many occupational therapists can help configure switches.
Questions
Can I use head movements?
