How to make your videos accessible to blind viewers
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerSay out loud what matters visually (‘I’m holding the blue one’), describe on-screen text, avoid ‘look at this’ without explanation, and add a short text description in your caption or post.
Describe as you go
Make the visual parts audible: what you’re showing, what changed, what the result looks like.
Avoid
- ‘As you can see…’ without saying what.
- Important text on screen that’s never read out.
- Silent sections where something important happens.
Describe images
Many platforms let you add alt text to images. Use it to describe what matters, briefly.
Questions
Does this make videos boring for sighted viewers?
Good description usually makes videos clearer for everyone.
